Glossary

Plain-English definitions of the words you will see around Metal TV.

Channel / the stream
The single, continuous 24/7 broadcast everyone watches at the same time, like a TV channel rather than on-demand video.
Rotation
The pool of videos eligible to air, and the act of cycling through them. "In rotation" means a song can currently be scheduled.
Genre family
A normalised genre grouping (Black, Death, Doom, Thrash, Heavy, Power, and so on) that each band is tagged with. Used for search and for the Genres picker.
Genres (picker)
Your genre preferences. Set them from the player to lean the live channel toward what you and the other viewers want. See Genres.
Now playing
The band, song and album details for the clip currently on air, shown in the side panels (or overlaid in fullscreen).
Upcoming / schedule
The list of clips coming up next and the recent history, under the now-playing panel.
Promotion (song)
A paid boost that guarantees a song airs at least once every 24 hours for its run. See Promote a song.
A paid banner (under chat) or tile (under Active Genres) for a brand, release or event. See Advertise on Metal TV.
Call to action (CTA)
The optional button on a promoted song (icon, text and link), for example "Listen now", shown while the song plays.
Library (yours)
The bands you follow and tracks you save with a free account. See Following & saving.
Metal Archives
The community metal encyclopedia (metal-archives.com) that most band data is sourced from.
Rescrape
Refreshing a Metal Archives band's data. Use the Refresh button on a band profile if its info or artwork looks out of date.
Manual band
A band added by a member that is not on Metal Archives, filled in and maintained by its owner.
Underground
Lesser-known, independent or extreme metal. Metal TV deliberately leans this way.
Filler
A short holding clip the channel shows in the rare moment a scheduled video is not ready, so it never goes dark.
