About

Formed in 2016 by former Sunless Sky co-founders Rob Brandt and Harry Hillock. They played their first show on December 3, 2016 at the annual Cleveland Metal Holiday Food Drive at Beachland Ballroom, in Cleveland, alongside numerous bands on 2 stages. This year of the massive annual charity event included Chemikill (reunion), Destructor, Vadiat (first show), Terror (reunion), Larry The Wolf (his only solo performance to date, also included 2 Manimals songs), Nunslaughter and many more bands on 2 stages. This was also they day they released their first 2 T-Shirts, black shirts with large Hell and Back logos in either white and red. After their set, guitarist Ed Miller suffered a heart attack while standing behind the Beachland with friends, but thankfully recieved quick medical attention and made a full recovery. After the first show the band recruited Rob Brandt's former Ludaci bandmate Gregg Juchum on bass, leaving Chris Harn free to focus on vocals (he played vocals and bass for the first show). This lineup recorded their self-titled EP in 2017. In 2018 Ed Miller would leave the band, replaced by another ex-Sunless Sky member Dave Kirk, who was also a former bandmate of Harry Hillock in the short-lived early 90's heavy metal/hard rock band Barabbas. Then in 2019 Harry Hillock would leave and be replaced by Matt Schostek, shortly before beginning the recording of their debut album "A Thousand Years". One of the songs on the album, "Feed" is actually an old Juchum-penned Ludaci track called "Sathanas", from their extremely rare 1992 cassette EP. The new version has new lyrics to better suit the drastically different style of vocals from the original (Hell and Back uses melodic high singing while Ludaci used deep death growls on the original song), hence it also getting a new name. However, after the album was recorded Gregg would leave the band as well, soon replaced by former Electro-Motive-Force bassist Chris Barwise, who re-recorded the bass tracks before the albums release.
