Catharasis

United States Split-up

About

Released on Sutekh Productions, the label that later became Slaughterhouse Records, this tape was released in '92 alongside goregrind heavyweights Disordered. Catharasis added the extra "a" to their name to differentiate themselves from a host of national and international bands existing at the time with the name "Catharsis". The band focused heavily on drugs as a lyrical topic, the cover of their debut (and only) cassette release was a close-up of green bong water. Where their counterparts in Disordered showed heaviness and brutality, Catharasis showed technical proficiency and skill, and an attention to very complex songwriting and soundscapes. The band came close to releasing a full length, but couldn't keep members or interest long enough to keep things going, and called it quits after a series of attempts to make a comeback. Not to be confused with: • Catharsis (Technical Power Metal from San Diego, California) • Catharsis (Thrash Metal from Fargo, North Dakota) • Catharsis (Metalcore from Chapel Hill, North Carolina) • Catharsis (Thrash Metal from Eufaula, Alabama) • Catharsis (mid-'80s band from Cambridge, Massachusetts; released a 1985 demo) • Catharsis (Progressive Hard Rock from Kalamazoo, Michigan; self-titled LP in '89) • Katharsis (Thrash Metal from Tampa, Florida)
